The Institute of Laser Physics
The Institute of Laser-Physics was founded in 1991. It is designed as a center for basic, applied research and advanced teaching. Research is focussed on the interaction of light and matter, the development of novel coherent light sources, and corresponding detection and preparation techniques.
Present research activities involve: laser spectroscopy and quantum optics, degenerate quantum systems, growth and chracterization of novel laser crystals, development of novel coherent light sources including non-linear frequency conversion techniques, and novel laser systems designed for specific applications.
The Institute of Laser-Physics provides extended experience in all branches of laser physics from basic research to technical applications. These competences are complemented by intriguing perspectives arising due to the new Centre for Free Electron Laser (CFEL) at DESY.
The Institute of Laser-Physics provides classes, lectures, tutorials, labs, and seminars for students in the course of their education at the University of Hamburg Physics Department.
