Excellence Cluster "Frontiers in Quantum Photon Science"
Funded by the Science and Research foundation Hamburg

supported by the Joachim Herz Stiftung
On July 3rd, 2009, the Excellence Cluster "Frontiers in Quantum Photon Science" has been founded as new and highly profiled research activity within the framework of the excellence initiative of the federal state of Hamburg. It is one of eight excellence clusters receiving funding through this initiative, whereof four are associated with the Physics Department of the University of Hamburg. As a special honor, the Joachim Herz Stiftung has taken over the full funding of the Cluster "Frontiers in Quantum Photon Science". In addition to internationally leading science, the inclusion of a high ranking guest researchers program and the public outreach efforts within the newly established "Light-at-Schools" programme has caught the attention of the Joachim Herz Stiftung and lead to the decision to fully fund the Cluster as its first project.
In January 2011 the funding of the cluster was extended until the end of 2012 and the whole Excellence Initiative was put into the hands of the newly established Science and Research Foundation of Hamburg.
